Are Veneers Right for Me?
Dental veneers go in front of your natural teeth to provide a smooth, healthy-looking, smile. This makes them great tools for cosmetic dentistry. They are often used on the front teeth since the ones in the back don't show when you smile.
Which Conditions Do Veneers Work With?
Tooth discoloration that doesn't respond to bleaching is often covered with veneers. This makes the teeth look pristine. Veneers can also be used to hide worn teeth.
People also use veneers to hide chips and misaligned teeth. While they can't always be used for this purpose, they're great when the issue is minor enough then it doesn't affect the structural Integrity of the teeth.
What Does Getting Dental Veneers Involve?
The first step to getting veneers is to get a dental check-up to make sure you're a good candidate. We'll take X-rays to ensure that your teeth are structurally sound. Assuming all is well, we will then schedule an appointment for the preparation of your teeth. During this visit, we'll remove about half a millimeter of enamel from each tooth that will get a veneer. We'll also take an impression of your teeth.
After your veneers have been made, we'll check the color to ensure that they'll blend with the rest of your teeth. Then, we'll cement them to the already prepared teeth. Finally, the cement will be activated by ultraviolet light.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
Veneers last from seven to 15 years. After this time, they generally need to be replaced. To maximize their lifespan, avoid habits like chewing on pencils, biting your nails, or otherwise putting too much pressure on the teeth.
